Climate and Culture
I want to be happy and happiness drives almost
everything we do. Some people find it in accomplishment. Some people find it in
power. We all find it by intrinsically motivating ourselves. Some people think
climate and culture are the same. They are not. Climate is the morale of an
organization. Culture is what you can get people to do. Climate can go up and
down during the year and can be more readily cured. Culture, on the other hand,
usually takes one to three years to build and one or two years to destroy.
“We are going to
create a place where everyone wants to be.”
The above statement, in
itself, can be difficult to accomplish. As long as there are self-serving
people, there will be barriers to everyone’s happiness. No one should ever feel
unhappy at work or school. Unfortunately, everyone does not understand the value
of this statement.
When was the last time
you said, “Thank Goodness It’s Monday?” Attitude and happiness are catchy
concepts but it seems like too many people are worried about the bottom line.
Because I work in a school, my bottom line is the students. We either work
together for the common success of our future or we work segmented for the
lower success and happiness of every stakeholder.
“Happy
people outperform unhappy people.”
What do you want your
legacy to be?
