Many of our
service projects have evolved over the years to include local charities and our
community. Some have been connected to our school families and our students. We
supported an organization for grieving kids, food banks, and our school created
awareness for hunger and cold feet. When you give service, the most important
component is, “Why are we doing it?” We are not just completing a goal but we
are making people conscious of the world around them.
This year we connected with #skateforchange
to generate awareness for the Rescue Mission. We kicked off our service project
with a skateboard ride through town. The students even challenged me to learn
to skateboard, so I did. Significantly, the students knew why we were skating-
to change perception and raise the quality of life.
The nonprofit #skateforchange was started by Mike Smith to
connect with homeless people in towns throughout our country. One goal is to
change perception while supporting people on the street until they can self-support.
We collected over 5,000 items.
