Happy New Year!
This month’s C.H.A.M.P.
character trait is COURAGE: The ability to believe in yourself and face problems
directly.
This means:
Ø Not
giving up when things go wrong
Ø Working
hard to improve your grades in a difficult subject
Ø Walking
away from an argument
Ø Doing
the right thing, especially when others are not
Ø Trying
something new as long as it is safe
Courage
will come up in our curriculum all year. You can reinforce courage through
discussions at home. You can tell your children stories about prominent people
that displayed courage. Or better yet, you can tell them about family members
that have made your family and the world around them better by being
courageous. Thank you for talking to your children about character.
In
addition to celebrating the holidays during December, we had many rewarding
teaching and learning experiences. Our Renaissance Street Team attended and
facilitated training at Burlington City High School. Our Renaissance service platform
continued with the collection of holiday packages, food, and clothing for the
AC Rescue Mission. To date, we collected over 3,000 items. Thank you! Our
school was featured in the Press of Atlantic City, and we were
interviewed on local radio about the project.
Our
band and choir had wonderful performances, and they added a nice touch to our
arts education. We had a schoolwide digital coding week added to our math
classes to celebrate “hour of code.” Our STEAM club also added some after school
opportunities to code and even had “Star Wars” coding to supplement our
Renaissance theme.
As
part of our STEAM process, we are collecting empty two-liter plastic bottles
for a greenhouse project. Please send them in if you have them. This project is
in conjunction with our curriculum and our recycling projects.
Our
Teacher of the Year and Educational Services Professional of the Year were
announced. They are Mrs. O’Kane and Mr. Pileiro respectively. Congratulations to
both on well-deserved honors.
