No Shutdown Here

What is a government shutdown? The schools were open. And as far as I know, it didn’t affect our school. But wait a minute, I just read that the shutdown cost $24 Billion. Maybe it was inaccurate. I do know for sure that this past Tuesday, the state of New Jersey had a special election that cost $24 million. And go figure, I work in a school so we were a polling place while the students were here. I don’t get it. Maybe there should have been a college class in doing more with less. Could there have been a more positive impact from not having a special election and using that money for education? I think so.

How about the government shutdown? Could we have used that $24B somewhere to balance the budget or education? Schools and educators are held to a higher standard than any other stakeholder group. Why isn’t business or government?

I am contemplating running for Congress next year. My platform will be education and renewable energy. Both need a new direction. I know I can make a positive transformation in both areas.  I’ll make it a civics lesson for our school.

Every new construction should be required to have solar or wind energy as a compliment to their projects. Oil, nuclear, and gas companies will be responsible to consumers to develop this energy and make it available. A portion of their profits should go to schools.

OK done the rant. I’m off to do more with less because I have to in order for our students and our future to be successful. I have a choice and I choose to do “Whatever it takes!” I am an educator.

Peace.
